Embrace the Adventure: Rainy Day Camping Tips
This week's edition of the Fireside Explorers Newsletter is dedicated to embracing the showers with our guide to rainy day activities. As spring unfolds, it brings along the inevitable sprinkle of wet and rainy weather. But don't let that dampen your spirits or cancel your camping plans! We're excited to share our top picks for rainy-day camping activities and tips to ensure your adventures remain unforgettable, come rain or shine.
Indoor Rainy Day Activities
Movie Marathon
Create a cozy cinema experience inside your RV. Bring a selection of your favorite films, hang some fairy lights for ambiance, and don't forget the popcorn.
Indoor Scavenger Hunt
Set up a scavenger hunt inside the RV. Hide small items or clues around and create a fun list for everyone to find. It's a great way to keep the kids (and adults) entertained.
Cooking Competition
Channel your inner chef and host a mini-cooking competition. Use whatever ingredients you have on hand to create delicious, innovative dishes. Bonus points for presentation!
Board Games and Card Tournaments
Break out the board games or cards for some competitive fun. Games like Scrabble, Monopoly, or Uno are perfect for getting everyone involved.
Crafting Time
Bring along crafting supplies for a creative session. Whether it's knitting, drawing, scrapbooking, or making friendship bracelets, crafting is a relaxing way to spend the day.
Reading Retreat
Turn your RV into a quiet reading nook. Have everyone pick a book and cozy up with blankets and pillows. Share your favorite parts or stories with each other later.
Music Jam Session
If you play any instruments, a rainy day is perfect for a jam session. Alternatively, create a playlist and have a sing-along or a dance party.

Spring Camping Tips
Bring Layers of Clothing
Spring weather can be fickle, with temperatures fluctuating from cool mornings to warmer afternoons and chilly evenings. Pack lightweight, breathable layers that you can easily add or remove as needed.
Pack Rain Gear
Don’t let a little rain dampen your spirits. Include waterproof boots (puddle boots are great for both kids and adults), raincoats, umbrellas, and, for the kids, full-body rain suits like Oaki suits. These items ensure that everyone stays dry and comfortable, even during unexpected downpours.
Use the Awning Wisely
Your RV's awning can provide a great outdoor living space that's protected from light rain, making it perfect for enjoying the outdoors without getting wet. Just remember to retract it if the wind picks up to avoid damage.
Prepare for Mud
Spring camping often means dealing with mud. Bring along a couple of heavy-duty mats for your RV entryway and campsite to minimize the amount of mud tracked inside. Also, a portable shoe rack can keep wet and muddy shoes outside but organized.
Choose Your Campsite Carefully
Look for higher ground and avoid areas that might become waterlogged or prone to flooding during rain. Check the campsite’s drainage and opt for a site with a bit of slope if possible.
Keep Bugs at Bay
Spring is when insects start to reappear, so pack insect repellent, citronella candles, or a bug zapper. Consider screen rooms or mesh food covers to keep flying pests away from your living and eating areas.
